Asociación CDRO

Asociación CDRO is a Mayan organization which consists of community organizations, associations, and businesses that promote the integral development of rural areas in western Guatemala. It is characterized by horizontal interrelationships, networking, coordination, and complementarity of actions among its members, its approach to community participation and unity, the practice of self-sustainability, and the commitment between the organization and the territory. It has no affiliations with political parties or religious organizations. Asociación CDRO and its entities, with 39 years of experience, have promoted comprehensive development in rural communities in 23 municipalities located in six departments in the western part of the country: Totonicapán, Huehuetenango, Quetzaltenango, San Marcos, Sololá, and Quiché.

The development model is being implemented under the concept of full community participation through:

  1. Community Organization: consolidating community unity and governance for management and advocacy in favor of rural development in western Guatemala.
  2. Community Institutionalization: expanding and/or consolidating opportunities for growth through the implementation of community-led projects, programs, and institutions.
  3. Environmental Sustainability: restoring the relationship and harmonious coexistence between nature and society through the care of natural resources and the adaptation and mitigation of the effects of climate change in rural communities.
  4. Sustainability and Poverty Reduction: developing productive, entrepreneurial, and sustainability capacities in families, organizations, associations, and community enterprises to contribute to the stimulation of the rural economy.
  5. Negotiation and Management Capacity: maintaining and expanding the institutional relationships for coordination, communication, and advocacy of organizations, associations, and community enterprises to promote true development.
